Cheryl Rainfield's response to the WSJ article about "dark" YA which specifically mentioned her novel: "...SCARS, a dreadfully clunky 2010 exercise by Cheryl Rainfield that School Library Journal inexplicably called 'one heck of a good book,' ran into difficulties earlier this year at the Boone County Library in Kentucky, but not because of its contents. A patron complained that the book's depiction of cutting—the cover shows a horribly scarred forearm might trigger a sufferer's relapse..."
Though it was a patron who was concerned about the possibility relapse--and she may very well have simply been making conversation--the personal opinion of the article's author did not go unnoticed.
